“Hi, my name is Ian Boyd. My wife Cathy and I run Whittington Lodge Farm alongside our daughter Steph. Together, we manage approximately 700 acres, with our primary focus being Hereford cattle.”

In 2022, I was honoured to receive Farmers Weekly’s Grassland Manager of the Year award. This recognition was a significant achievement for both myself and the farm, as I am deeply passionate about what we do. I’ve developed a cost-effective system that leverages our grassland to support our 45-head Whittington Hereford herd, with all meat sold directly, while also enhancing production on our arable land.

I believe that our 100% grass-fed production system is what gives our farm’s beef its unique flavour, which has earned us a loyal customer base. Additionally, this grassland system shields both our beef and arable enterprises from rising input costs, all while improving soil health and on-farm biodiversity.

My daughter and I share a strong passion for regenerative farming, and we believe the Hereford breed plays a crucial role in the future of this farming method.

Our goal for the future is to welcome the public, students, and established farmers to our farm to share stories, knowledge, and ideas about regenerative farming, with the Herefords being a central topic of discussion.
