“Hi, my name is Will, and I have a 220-acre coastal farm in Pembrokeshire.”
My connection to farming is distant but significant—my ancestors farmed in Northern Ireland until my grandfather left the family farm during the Second World War, severing our direct ties to the land.
Despite this, I’ve always had a passion for farming, particularly cattle farming. Before securing the farm we have now, I was involved in several short-term tenancy agreements. This farm gave me the stability I needed to invest in and grow my business.
Initially, I focused on dairy farming, with the goal of building up my herd. By 2022, I had reached my target herd size and decided it was time for a change in direction, switching to a beef breed.
After considering many options, the Hereford breed stood out as the perfect choice. I wanted a breed with a good temperament to minimize risks and one that could calve easily. Keeping things simple is important to me, and Herefords fit that philosophy perfectly. Since investing in them, we’ve truly enjoyed working with the Herefords. They’re docile, easy to manage, and allow us to focus on other key areas of the farm.
I see nothing but success for the future with our Hereford cattle by our side, and I look forward to seeing where this journey takes us.
